Columbia County
Wendell “Stan” Bartles, 70, of Appling, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on November 2, 2023.
Stan was born on March 20, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia. He grew up in rural Columbia County, was Baptist by faith, and a member of Sharon Baptist Church. Stan was a devoted family man who enjoyed farming, raising cows, working in the yard, telling jokes, and catching a mess of fish. Most days, Stan was either stationed behind his desk running his company business of 35 years, Bartles Electric, or checking on his farm in Warrenton, Georgia. On Wednesdays you could find him at the Wilkes County Stockyard or eating pancakes in the fall at Joey’s Pancake House in the Blue Ridge Mountains. His love for cows and farming inspired his grandson, Cody, to start a farm of his own. Horses were always special to him and his granddaughter, Alexis, who he encouraged to start barrel racing at a young age. She placed fourth in the Nation at the National Youth World Barrel Race competition in Perry, Georgia. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, often calling his daughter, Shannon, to make sure the TV was set to the right channel before game time, but would also call and check on his daughter, Chasity, when Alabama was losing. Baseball was his true sports passion, having played as a young boy for several years under Coach Lonnie Morris Sr. While his health kept him from watching his grandson, Kade, and the Georgia Legends play in their baseball tournaments, he would often show up to practice and watch from a distance. He was their biggest fan and always requested a play-by-play from each game. No one could prepare Stan for his last granddaughter, Rylee, she was his shadow. They shared many of the same facial expressions, "bossy" attitudes, and most importantly, their genuine love for everyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Uyles Lee "Bill" Bartles and Zera Morris Bartles; infant daughter, Sara Bartles; and beloved dog, Boston. Stan’s survivors include his loving, devoted wife of 50 years, Denise Luke Bartles; his daughters, Chasity Bartles Hughes of Warrenton and Shannon Bartles Moore (Jeff) of Appling; his brothers, Don Bartles (Martha) of Martinez, Ronald Bartles of Appling and Chris Bartles (Soleta) of Appling; his grandchildren, Cody Hughes, Alexis Hughes, Kade Moore and Rylee Moore; his faithful longtime employee, Eric Parker; and other extended family.
To honor Stan’s life, it is the family’s wish that everyone would become an organ donor. Each person that chooses this amazing gift can save the life of eight people and enhance the life of 75 others. 25 years ago, Stan received that gift of life from an organ donor that extended his life beyond what was expected. To learn more about organ donation or to become an organ donor today, visit organdonor.gov to sign up.
Please wear anything colorful or something that reminds you of Stan.
