Mr. Virgil Wade Palmer, 72 entered in rest on Friday, May 4, 2018 at his residence in Greensboro, Georgia. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 6 at 3 o'clock at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Mr. Palmer was born in Lincoln County and lived in Wilkes County most of his life. He was the former owner of Palmer Construction, a right of way clearing contractor for Alabama Electric.
For the past 30 years he has owned Palmer Equipment in Washington. Mr. Palmer also pastored churches in Lincoln, Taliaferro and Wilkes County for many years until retiring recently.
He was a founding board member of Penfield Christian Home in Union Point and was also very devoted to the Gideon Ministry. Also, he was a member of Raytown Baptist Church.
His parents, Cramer Palmer and Ida Ruth Whitener Palmer preceded him in death along with his two brothers, Garnett Palmer and Phil Palmer, and a granddaughter, Bonnie.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Hardy Palmer; sons, Benjamin Edwards and wife, Donna, Andy Edwards and wife, Annie; daughters, Sonya P. Roth and husband, Darrell, Carol E Finley and husband, John, Melissa Schneider and husband, Joe, and Cindy Nichols; brothers, Marvin Palmer and wife, Alma, Bruce Palmer and wife, Joyce, and Cornell Palmer; sisters, Linda P. Brown and Pam Higginbotham and husband, Ken. Mr. Palmer had 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
