Mrs. Viola Holden Herring, 94 , wife of the late Rev. Charles J. Herring, entered into rest at her home on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.
Mrs. Herring, daughter of the late Emory T. Holden, Sr. and Cornelia Bounds Holden, was born in Richmond, VA on March 23, 1923. A resident of Lincolnton for over 60 years, she had been employed by Oxford Manufacturing as a supervisor, and had been very active at Hephzibah Baptist Church where she had served as WMU Director and on the WMU Associational Council for the Georgia Baptist Association. In 1979, she assisted her husband, Rev. Charles J. Herring, as the first resident and program director for the newly founded Penfield Christian Home. Following retirement in 1985, she had served on the Penfield Christian Home Board of Directors and Lincolnton Housing Authority.
Her life spent here was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She dearly loved her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all that knew her. In addition to her husband, and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leon Holden, and Emory T. Holden, Jr.
As a devoted Christian, she fulfilled the Great Commission and walked by faith until her death. Some of her greatest joys were teaching, witnessing and serving the Lord. Her dedication to Penfield Christian Home reflects today her calling “well done thou good and faithful servant.” Her desire was to live life as the Lord required of her… to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God. Micah 6:8
She is survived by her daughters, Janet H. Goldman and husband, Jimmie, Sylvia H. McCurry, and Martha H. Evans all of Lincolnton; 5 grandchildren; 8 great- grandchildren; 7 great- great grandchildren.
