Obituary
William Tandy Presnell, known affectionately as Tandy died on Monday, August 28, 2023 in McCormick, South Carolina. Born on January 31, 1950, Tandy lived a life full of adventure and love, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Tandy was born in Greeneville, Tennessee, but his family moved to North Augusta, South Carolina when his father secured employment at SRP. He graduated from North Augusta High School in 1968, where he excelled in football, baseball, basketball, and tennis. His athletic prowess earned him a football scholarship to Western Carolina, but he later transferred to Georgia Southern. It was there that he met the love of his life, Gayle Grosvenor. They married shortly after and moved near Gayle's hometown of Jacksonville.
Tandy began his career with CSX on the Maintenance of Way, or as it's better known, the "gang crew". He was later promoted to the title of yardmaster in Waycross. Upon retirement, Tandy and Gayle moved to Lincolnton, where he became a member of the Rocky Branch Golf Club. Golf became one of his greatest passions, along with boating and reading spy and mystery novels. Tandy was also a man of strong faith, praying for his family daily. His favorite word, "Dadgummit," often brought smiles to the faces of those around him.
Tandy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gayle Grosvenor Presnell; daughters, Jenni Presnell of Anderson, SC, Alyson P. Roberson and husband Nick of Blackshear, and Katie P. Howard and husband Chad of Watkinsville; sister, Nancy West and husband Bruce of Springfield, SC,sister-in-law, Nanette Presnell of Cleveland, GA; five grandchildren, Taylor Howard, Jack Murray, Garrett Murray, Brooks Roberson, and Bennett Roberson; and his beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Presnell and Evelyn Presnell Martin; stepdad, Clint Martin; and brother James Stone Presnell.
A celebration of Tandy's life will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 6pm at Rocky Branch Golf Club with Rev. Addison Belangia officiating.
