Susie Smith Abbott, 95, of Warrenton went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 8, 2023. Mrs. Abbott was born on October 25, 1927, in Glascock County and lived most of her life in Warren County. She was the daughter of Herbert and Vera Mae Johnson Smith. Mrs. Abbott was a long-time member of Warrenton First United Methodist Church, having grown up in Johnson Methodist Church. She was active in the Mamie Evans Sunday School class. She was salutatorian of the Warrenton High School Class of 1944. Mrs. Abbott was active for many years in the Warrenton Garden Club and enjoyed working in her yard, growing flowers and bird-watching. She also enjoyed crafting, particularly making Christmas ornaments, which she generously shared with family and friends. She was renowned at Clemson University for her care packages of cookies to her grandchildren during their college years and was an avid Clemson Tiger.
Mrs. Abbott worked as secretary/bookkeeper for the Warren County Board of Education and retired with 30 years of service.
Susie Abbott loved and was especially proud of her family, including her late husband of 57 years, Ralph; her daughters and sons-in-law: Laurie Abbott of Warrenton, Rosemary and Chip Harris of North Augusta, SC, and Audrey and Jay Harrison of Thomson; her beloved grandchildren, Erin (Jad) Taylor of Cayce, SC and Will (Sally) Harris of Charleston, SC; brother Gene (Carol) Smith, and sister-in-law, Margaret D. Smith, all of Warrenton. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Abbott was predeceased by 2 brothers, H. Melvin Smith and Louie E. Smith.
The family will receive visitors at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, on Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Johnson United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4228 Gibson Highway, in Warren County with Rev.
