Mr. Stanton Eugene Tankersley, Sr., 88 of Double Branches Rd., Lincolnton entered into rest on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 11 am at Double Branches Baptist Church. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7pm until 9pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Tankersley was one of nine boys born to the late Charles and Nina Haynes Tankersley. His birthday, March 20, 1933 was in the middle of the Great Depression. One of a generation of hard workers with humble beginnings and a country schoolhouse education cut short, he grew up farming and by age 13 was plowing a mule on his own with a typical day beginning at daylight and returning home sometimes at dark. As soon as he was old enough, he enlisted in the US Army to serve our country during the Korean Conflict. When he returned from Korea, he joined the Iron Workers Local 709 where he became a Superintendent and saw many projects completed during his career. Notably, hanging all of the iron for University Hospital, projects at SRS, Ft Gordon and International Paper. All the while, he maintained a cattle farm which he really enjoyed. Everyday, even since his recent illness, he always prayed for each of his family members by name.
His commitment to serving God and his community was always a priority to him and he lead in many capacities in those organizations which include 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of Lincolnton F& AM #354, President, Vice President and Board Member of Lincoln County Farm Bureau from 1959 until present, Lincoln County Soil and Water Conservation District member for 50 years, lifetime member of the Georgia Cattleman’s Association, member and Trustee Chairman of Double Branches Baptist Church for 50 years along with serving as Secretary and Treasurer for 40 plus years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Isabelle "Belle" Wall Tankersley and his brothers, John Thomas, Clinton,Melvin, Alton, Charles, Theron, Hugh and Walter George Tankersley.
He will be greatly missed by his son, Stanton E. “Stan” Tankersley, Jr. and wife Teresa; Lynn Tankersley Collins all of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Hannah Crawford, Lauren Palmer, Dalton Tankersley, Hattie Hancock,; great- grandchildren, Dawson Tankersley, Madison Tankersley, Tristan Tankersley, Joseph Michael Lionetti, Southern Palmer, Huxton Palmer, Declan Crawford, Ashby Hancock, and twins, Isabelle and Samuel Tankersley, and special friend, Barbara W. Ashmore.
