Columbia County
Sandra “Nana” Williams McMurdy was called home on September 6, 2023, after a hard-fought battle that she handled so bravely against all the odds. She was always a caregiver to many and preferred giving to receiving. She had a heart of gold and will be missed greatly.
She was raised in Appling, Ga on the home place by her loving grandparents, Cluese and Kate Morris. She loved traveling with her favorite places being the beach and camping at the lake. Her favorite joy in life was spending time with family but especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She graduated from Harlem High School and Augusta Tech. “Nana” was Baptist by faith, a member of Kiokee Baptist Church, active in Kiokee WMU, was Treasurer of the Columbia County Historical Society and retired from Akima at Ft. Gordon.
Sandra was predeceased in death by her husband, John McMurdy and mother, Doris Morris Skidmore. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Elizabeth S. Edwards (Robert) and Amy Sturkey Scott (Charles Marshall); her grandchildren, Shelby Edwards (Kyle), Kyle Edwards (Candace); her great grandchildren, Dawson and Wyatt and her brother, Elvin Skidmore (Linda).
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, GA 30824. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Kiokee Cemetery, 6504 Shucraft Road, Appling, GA 30802, with Rev. Steve Hartman officiating.
