Mrs. Ruzel Spires Glidewell, 87 of Ashmore Barden Rd., Lincolnton entered into rest on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Self Regional Medical Center, Greenwood.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 10am at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, November 17, 2021 from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Glidewell, daughter of the late Robert Henry and Gertrude Rosa Jones Spires was born on September 21, 1934 in McRae, Ga. After graduating from high school, she met William Joseph Glidewell while he was stationed at Warner Robbins. They were soon married, and his career in the US Navy took them to many places including Jacksonville, Fl., New York, Asheville, N.C., and Maine. After retirement around 1980, they moved back to Lincoln County where her husband Joe grew up.
Her interests included working in her yard, gardening, tending to her flowers, and cooking. She really enjoyed collecting anything with butterflies, photographing both butterflies and her grandchildren and watching Hallmark Christmas movies.
She is survived by her husband, William Joseph “Joe” Glidewell; daughter, Karen Glidewell of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Kirsten Parham of N. Augusta, SC, Kenneth J. Glidewell, Jr. of Washington, DC, Ian Lee Glidewell of New Jersey; great- grandchildren, Kylie Ann Parham, Mattison Agnes Parham, Aubrey Elizabeth Parham and Tristan Glidewell; sister, Virginia Connell; sisters-in-law, Rebecca G. Mahaffey and Mary Glidewell; her dog, “Lucky”. Her son Kenneth Joseph Glidewell, Sr. preceded her in death.
