Mr. Ronald Cook, Sr., 78 of Savannah Lakes Village, McCormick, S.C. entered into rest on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Self Regional Medical Center, Greenwood.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 11 a.m. at First Assembly of God, Lincolnton, Ga. with military honors. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 am until the hour of the service at the church.
Mr. Cook, son of the late Lyle and Mildred Pelton Cook, was born on July 27, 1941 in Grand Rapids Michigan where he grew up and graduated from high school. He served an enlistment in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 until 1963 and shortly afterwards was employed by the Steelcase Furniture Company where he was later promoted to a distribution manager’s position. This responsibility included the shipment of over 800 truckloads of furniture weekly from their Grand Rapids factory. Following retirement in 2000, he and his wife, Judy, moved to Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, S.C. For over 20 years, he helped with the Humane Society of McCormick County during which time he served as president and adoption chair, volunteered at the Lincoln County Food Pantry and was a dedicated member of First Assembly of God in Lincolnton, Ga. When he was younger, he enjoyed boating and camping on Lake Michigan and Hardy Dam.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Cook; sons, Brian Hendricks, Ron Cook, II and wife Marlene, Jason VanLiere; daughters, Lisa Smith and husband Charles, Lorie Ann Hardesty, Wendy Gornall and husband Greg; brother, Patrick Cook; sisters, Jacqueline Boorsma and husband Ronald and Kathleen Cavanaugh and husband Michael; 15 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren; and best friend, Gene Sliker.
