Obituary
Robert Hayden "Bobby" Blount, 67 of Lincolnton passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Son of the late Robert S. and Shirley Ann Neal Blount, he was born on February 25, 1956 in Gallatin, TN. Growing up, Bobby's father's job with TVA required them to move many times throughout Tennessee and Kentucky. Despite the constant changes, Bobby remained focused on his education, ultimately graduating from high school in Clarksville, TN, in 1974. He went on to receive a degree in Civil Engineering from Auburn University in 1978, which marked the beginning of a long and successful career.
Bobby initially worked for TVA, but when Reaganomics shuttered the plant he was working at, he moved to Georgia in 1980 to join Southern Company. There, Bobby contributed significantly to the construction of Plant Vogtle. Once the reactor became operational, he transitioned to maintaining the plant and retired 35 years later. Even after retirement, Bobby continued to work for Hire Technology at Plant Vogtle for an additional five years. Throughout his career, he was known as a dedicated and hardworking employee.
An avid Auburn football fan, Bobby loved the War Damn Eagles and bled Orange and Blue. He was also a die-hard Ford man and Mustang enthusiast, which led to his membership in the CSRA Mustang Club. Bobby was of Methodist faith and found joy in watching NASCAR races, cheering on his favorite drivers through the years, such as Harry Gant, Sterling Marlin, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Ferguson Blount, his son Tyler Blount and wife Danielle, and his cherished granddaughter, Aurora Grace Blount. His family was the center of his world, and he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Daisy Neal, and infant sister, Elizabeth Faith Blount.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 6 pm until 8 pm at Beggs Funeral Home in Lincolnton. Graveside services will take place on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 2 pm at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson.
Bobby's life was marked by his unwavering love for his family, dedication to his career, and passion for his interests. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
