Michael W. “Mike” Murphy was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 27, 2021. He passed away peacefully at his home in Lincolnton, Georgia with his family at his bedside.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at 1pm at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton,
Mike was born in Augusta, Ga. On December 30, 1951 where he spent his childhood and graduated from Butler High School in 1970. Later that year, in the Fall of 1970 which was during the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the US Navy. During his military service, he was stationed at Ft Jackson and worked hard to achieve the rank of AT3. He was responsible for installing the radios and instrumentation in the A-7 Corsair jets. On July 5, 1976, a day after our country’s 200th birthday, he received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy for his honest and faithful service. In gratitude for his wartime service, Mike was accepted for official membership in the American Legion.
Afterwards, he attended Augusta College where he studied business for three years. He retired from Nutrasweet and was owner of Breezy Hill Car Wash and Garden Center in Graniteville, S.C. He was a blood donor and Secret Santa for many years.
Mike and Dale were married on September 5, 1981 in Augusta and soon afterwards they moved to Lincolnton to establish a home that they would live in “until death do us part.” Their marriage has been a shining example of love, honesty, joy, faithfulness, and commitment that lasted for 40 years until his passing.
Together, Mike and Dale loved to travel and go hiking. Highlights of those trips include the Grand Canyon, Bryce’s Canyon, Zion National Park, and Red Rock Canyon. Some of their favorite destinations together include Las Vegas, Nevada, Biloxi, Mississippi, Cherokee, North Carolina and Hoover Dam. Also, he was an avid UGA fan and loved cheering and rooting for his Georgia Bulldawgs.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years who was the love of his life, Dale Murphy; children, Ronda Tuten (Fred) of Lincolnton, Brian Cowart (Tonya) of Augusta, April Whitledge of Blythe, Ga; grandchildren, Brandon Grant of Lincolnton, Austin, Chris & David, Cody, Cole & Sarah all of Augusta and Blythe; great- grandchildren, Asher, Myles, Kyle, Caleb, Waylon and Mallory; aunt, Mary Corbett of Augusta..
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Rectal Colon Cancer Center or Shepeard Community Blood Center.
