SFC Melvin Eugene “Jake” Jacobson, US Army Retired of Lincolnton entered into rest on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at his residence. He was 52 years old.
Jake was born on September 29, 1969 in Norfolk, Virginia, and he was a force from the very beginning. Jake’s father, Delbert was in the Navy, and as a child of the military, Jake lived in many places, mostly on the West Coast. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. During his career, he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and like his father before him, the Army took him many places, which included seven tours in the Middle East, serving in operation Desert Storm, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom, for which he was highly decorated and received two Bronze Stars. The military also served as a springboard to leadership, where he made friendships that would span his entire lifetime. Although, Jake would never want to be referred to as a hero, he touched many lives with his fun loving personality and dedication to his family and friends, he was the true definition of an American hero.
After retirement, he truly lived life to the fullest, and his days were spent cracking jokes, trying to make people smile, and spending time with all of his favorite people. Jake is remembered by being the life of the party, the biggest personality in the room, and always down for an adventure. Jake thrived in the great outdoors, with his constant and faithful companion, Cabela Ann, where hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking were his second language of choice. Jake was also an avid chef and grill master extraordinaire. He would often send photos of his cooking masterpieces to everyone on his contact list. At first glance, Jake seemed gruff and intimidating, but to those who knew him best, he was loving, kind-hearted, and wore his heart on his sleeve.
He is survived by his wife, Macy Jacobson; sons, Adam Seiler and wife Amy of Dahlonega, Ga., Daniel Jacobson and wife Stephani of New Jersey; stepchildren, Tori O’Bryant, Toni O’Bryant and Tyler Wade; grandchildren, Faith Seiler and Jake Duke; his father, Delbert Jacobson; and his service dog “Cabela” a German Shorthaired Pointer. His mother Terry Pickens preceded him in death.
