February 3, 1939 ~ June 12, 2020 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Mr. Malcolm Ware Chafin, 81 of Washington, Ga. entered into rest on Friday, June 12, 2020 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Pope’s Chapel, Tignall with Rev. Thomas Kohlenberg officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. until the hour of the service on Sunday in the church sanctuary with social distancing guidelines.
Mr. Chafin, son of the late Miles and Willie Pearl Gresham Chafin, was born on February 3, 1939 in Wilkes County. He graduated from Washington Wilkes High School in 1957. Shortly thereafter, he entered the US Navy and served for a period of five years during which time he was on the Destroyer Leader John S. McCain based in Hawaii.
Afterwards, he moved backed to Washington and took a position as general manager/accountant of Callaway Farms and was employed there for almost 30 years. In addition, he operated a tax preparation business from his home for three decades. After retiring from Callaway Farms, he was the finance manager and auto salesman at Drake Randall Chevrolet and later worked at Wilco Packaging. He retired at age 62.
He was always willing to serve the community and his church in various capacities and was dedicated wherever he served. To list a few, he was a charter member of the Optimist Club, coached various Little League teams for many years, former member of Pope’s Chapel and currently served as caretaker of the building and grounds, member of Independence United Methodist Church where he served as finance chairman and held many other positions.
June 25th of this year he and his wife, Elizabeth would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son David Chafin and wife Karen; daughter, Rhonda Keen and husband John; brother, Alvin Chafin; grandchildren, Lizzie Keen, Grant Chafin, Jarrett Keen, Miles Chafin, and Chase Chafin. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Pete Chafin, Nell Turpin, Aubrey Chafin, Emogene Davenport, and Troy Chafin.
