Lewis Matthews Bentley, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2023, in his hometown of Lincolnton, Georgia.
Lewis, son of the late Harold L. and Dorothy Bentley was born on May 2, 1948 and grew up in the Woodlawn Community near all of his grandparents and cousins. He went on to graduate from Lincolnton High School in 1966.
He drove his own truck and worked for several local trucking companies, including Aycock & Bentley Logging, K&M Trucking, and Burgess Logging. Lewis also owned and operated Bentley's Service Station for seven years in the 1980s, owned M&M Trucking and worked for Apple Homes many years ago.
With a strong commitment to his community, Lewis served as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Lincolnton and Loco Fire Dept. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he had served as a youth leader and house and grounds committee member in years past. Lewis was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, which brought joy and laughter to those around him.
Lewis is survived by his son, Matthew Lewis Bentley; daughter, Mindy Bentley (Tracy Neal); brother, Gary Bentley; sister, Martha B. Aycock and husband Barney, Jr.; sister-in-law, Dori Bentley; and grandchildren, Matthew Wood Bentley, Kayson Erin Bentley, and Addie Rose Bentley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edwin Bentley.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 2pm at Salem Baptist Church with a visitation beginning at 1pm in the church sanctuary.
