Kathleen “Kathy” Carr Jopling 73, loving wife of 49 years to Dr. William “Bill” Jopling, entered into rest on Thursday October 12, 2023. She was born in Sandersville, Georgia to the late Thomas and Margaret Carr.
She graduated from Washington County High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Georgia Southern University.
Education and helping others were such an important aspect of their lives together, they have a yearly Scholarship to Georgia Southern University and a yearly Scholarship at the Medical College of Georgia Dental School. At Georgia Southern University, the family contributed to the golf building, hence named “The Carr- McCarty- Jopling Golf Performance Center”.
Mrs. Jopling was a member of the Thomson Junior Women’s Club; The Pine Needle Garden Club and she enjoyed her weekly Bridge Club. In 1975, Kathy and her husband Bill joined the Thomson First United Methodist Church and both taught Sunday School for many years. Kathy also taught Sunday Night Youth and was the coordinator of the curriculum for all the Sunday School Classes for over 35 years. She and Bill attended the Faith Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Kathy worked alongside her husband as an accountant in his dental practice, Jopling and Brunson DMD of Thomson. She was loving wife, mother and adored spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Carr and Margaret Jordan Carr, and her sister, Margaret McCarty.
Kathy’s survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Dr. William “Bill” Jopling; two sons, David Thomas Jopling (Stacie) and William Miller Jopling, II.: two grandchildren, Emmy Jopling and Blakely Jopling; brothers-in-law, Johnny McCarty, John P. Jopling (Patsy); nieces, Meg McCarty Smith (Eric) and Lollie Jopling Hagen (Barrett); and nephew, Patrick Jopling (Rebecca
There will be no Visitation.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Thomson First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Steve Dodson officiating. Interment will be private.
