Mrs. Katherine Norman Wheatley, loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother of Wheatley Rd., Washington, Ga. entered into rest on Thursday, September 26, 2019 in the home in which she had resided since 1959. She was 93 years old.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service in the church sanctuary.
Mrs. Wheatley was born in the Midway Community of Lincoln County on March 22, 1926. She was the fourth of eight children born to the late Carlton and Della Ware Norman. She attended primary school at Midway, then Forest Grove School and graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1943. Following graduation, she went to work in Washington at Royal Manufacturing. During that time, she met Stanley Wheatley and they were married on March 3, 1945. Her infant son, Robert Allen Wheatley died in 1948. For many years, she has been a faithful member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, serving in many capacities including choir, WMU and hostess committee. In addition to her parents and infant son, she was preceded in death by her son, Louis Kenneth Wheatley, grandson, Don Wheatley, Jr. and siblings, Allen Norman, Harvey Norman, Ada Mildred Wright, Margaret Parks, Marian Fagan, Joyce Bentley and Jacqueline Butler.
Survivors include her husband of 74 years, L. Stanley Wheatley; sons, Donald Wheatley and wife, Barbara of Blairsville; Norman Wheatley and wife, Marie of Tiger, Ga; daughter, Kathy W. Smith and husband Lyn of Appling; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Wheatley, Heather Smith, Carlton Wheatley, Ryan Wheatley, Ben Wheatley, Megan Compton and Leah Fair; six great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is deeply appreciative of the love that was shown to Mrs. Wheatley from her caregivers through her illness. They include Elizabeth Lee, Carol Curry, Doris Heard and Liz Mae.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3219 Metasville Rd., Washington, Ga 30673.
