Josephine Bentley Corbin, Mama Jo to most, died Saturday June 30,2018 after a long, exhausting battle with COPD. Mama was born November 21, 1924 in Woodlawn community to Minnie and Gross Bentley. After high school, she worked in Augusta and later at Ft. Gordon. While working at Home Café after WWII, she met Harold Corbin, and they married November 23, 1945. They were together until Daddy’s death in 2004.
Mama and Daddy owned the Lincoln Dry Cleaners from 1945-1957. Daddy accepted a job that would move the family to Houston. The many, many years of “coming home” to Lincolnton followed. We lived in Houston, but Lincolnton was where the holidays were spent. Years later, our family bonded over Katy football. If Katy had a game, the Corbins and Carters were there. It takes a real family matriarch to sit in raining, 38 degree weather to see her granddaughters perform at half-time. That was the real Josephine B Corbin!
Jo is survived by 2 daughters, Kathy Corbin Carter and Carol Bentley Corbin; 2 granddaughters, Amanda Leigh McDaniel (Matthew) and Laura Kathryne Tedder (Chris); and 7 great-grandchildren: Carter, Madeline and Molly McDaniel, and Brooks, Rhett, Paige, and Tessa Tedder. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and her son-in-law, Jesse J. Carter.
Rest in peace, Mama Jo. We find some comfort in knowing you can breathe again. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston TX 77030-4123
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Randall Edmunds officiating.
Beggs Funeral Home, 200 May Ave., Lincolnton, GA is in charge of arrangements.
