Mr. Johnnie “Pat” William Carter, 90, of Thomson, Georgia, went home to be with his Lord on May 21, 2021.
Mr. Carter was born in Wrightsville, Georgia on May 14, 1931, grew up there, and moved to the surrounding area in 1969. He was the son of the late Fred Carter and Alma Riner Carter. Johnnie was the owner and operator of Carter’s Bait and Tackle at the entrance of Mistletoe State Park and Marshalk Grocery in Augusta, Georgia, while also working as a life and casualty insurance representative. He was Baptist by faith, was a devoted servant of God, member and deacon at Sharon Baptist Church. Mr. Carter enjoyed fishing, was an avid Braves and Falcons Fan and loved sharing his faith with others.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Pounds Carter; his parents, Fred Carter and Alma Riner Carter; his son, Johnnie Carter, Jr, his brother, Kenneth Carter and his sister, Mary Carter Smith; His survivors include his daughters, Gail Carter of Thomson, Georgia and Ann Carter Rollins (Charles) of Thomson, Georgia; his brother, Russell Carter of Englewood, Colorado; his sister Judy Carter Smith of Cochran, Georgia; grandchildren, Heath Rollins, Chris Rollins and David Carter, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 2 p.m., at Sharon Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 24, 2021 from 6-8p.m. at the Beggs Funeral Home.
