John "Wayne" Chalker Obituary

John “Wayne” Chalker, 86, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on January 14, 2024.

Wayne was born in Warren County on November 23, 1937, and he lived most of his life in McDuffie County.  He was the owner/operator of Happy Valley Store and Chalker Construction until his retirement.  Wayne was Baptist by faith and a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, spending time with his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Luckey Chalker; his parents, Joe Lawrence and Nell Johnson Chalker; his brother, Gene Chalker; his sisters Edith Langford and Reba Allen; and his son-in-law Danny Gunn.  His survivors include his daughter Becky Gunn; his son Bobby Chalker (Sheryll); his grandchildren, Amanda Rabun (Jack), Justin Gunn (Lindsey), Clint Chalker and Shannon Chalker; and his great grandchildren, Lucy Palmer Gunn, Lynnon Baker Gunn and Lincoln Daniel Rabun.

His Graveside Service will be held at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson, Georgia on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., being officiated by Pastor Chris Smith and Pastor Don Cummings.  The family will receive friends at the home of Becky Gunn, or at the graveside following the service.  Please visit to sign the family’s personal guestbook.
