James Welborn Smith, 89, Dearing, Georgia, passed from this life into eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 13, 2022.

James was born in Wilkes County, Georgia on September 19, 1932, grew up in Washington, Georgia, and graduated from Wilkes County High School.  He was Baptist by faith and an active member of Dearing Baptist Church, Dearing, Georgia. He loved cutting grass, Lincoln County Red Devil football, going fishing and especially loved his family.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Welborn Simon Smith and Mamie Agee Smith; and a son-in-law Richard Goolsby. His survivors include his wife of 34 years, Linda Smith; his daughters, Carol Ann Goolsby, Susan Vaughn and Lisa Hensley (Jason); his sister, Hazel Guy; five precious grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and a special niece, Judy White.

A Funeral Service, being officiated by Rev. Mike Timmerman and Rev. Brian George, will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia with the interment following at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, 2562 Salem Church Road, Lincolnton, Georgia 30817.  A gathering for visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Please visit www.beggsfuneralhome.net to sign the family’s personal guestbook.
