Mr. Howard R. Albert, 84 of McCormick, SC entered into rest on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Self Regional Medical Center, Greenwood, SC.
Mr. Albert, son of the late Killian and Lula Aretta Johnson Albert was born on July 3, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. He grew up in Dundalk, Maryland and went on to graduate from the University of Maryland Baltimore with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1969. Shortly thereafter, he passed the CPA exam. Actually, he passed it on the first attempt which is an amazing feat. Afterwards, he worked at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, MD, the State of Maryland Hospital System and later the State of Maryland as Director of Budget and Finance where he retired. In 1998, he and his wife Phyllis moved to SLV in McCormick, SC.
God blessed him with a beautiful voice and as early as the 1960’s, he sang with The Princemen Barbershop Quartet in the State of Maryland. Since moving to McCormick, he has been active in the Huguenot Barbershop Quartet and the First Assembly of God choir where he was a faithful member and also served as a Commander in the Royal Ranger-Ranger Kids Program.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing. In years past, he had played on the State of Maryland Golf League and has been a member of the SLV Men’s Golf Association for almost 25 years. Highlights of his years of golfing included two hole in ones.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Phyllis Albert; sons, Matt Davis and wife Julie of McCormick, John Davis and wife Louisa of Springtown, TX, Jeff Albert of Westminster, MD; daughter, Laura Dillon of Hampstead, MD. 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His brother, William Albert preceded him in death.
A celebration of life will be held in Westminster, MD at a later date.
