Mr. Gene Arthur Stevens, 78 of Bethany Church Rd., Lincolnton entered into rest on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at McCormick Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 3 pm at First Assembly of God, Lincolnton. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Washington. The family will receive friends beginning at 2pm until the hour of the funeral at the church.
Cole Stevens, John Stevens, Stephen Broome, Blake Ware, Charlton Ware and Ed Smith will serve as pallbearers.
Bruce Rowland, Jack Reese, Leon Cox, Gene Sliker, Stephen Lindsey, and Lamar LeRoy will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Stevens, son of the late Brantley O. and Lucy Echols Stevens, was born in Wilkes County and lived in the the Ficklen Community most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy, was a cattle farmer for many years, along with working at Gold Kist and retired from Anthony Wood Products.
He was a faithful member of First Assembly of God, Lincolnton serving in the choir, Senior Sunday School Class and bus driver. Also, he was a member of the Wilkes County Young Farmers, and Cattleman’s Association.
Gene always considered others before himself. He truly possessed the character of the Holy Spirit and was a “true vine” who was dearly loved by his family.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Linda Owens Stevens, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Pete Stevens, Doug Stevens, Billy Stevens, Gerald Stevens, Jimmy Stevens, and Betty Stevens Echols.
He is survived by his wife of almost 11 years, Betty Holloway Banks Stevens; son, Philip Stevens and wife Carla of Gibson, Ga; daughter, Gina Stevens Broome and husband Steve of Washington Ga; step-son, John Banks and wife Kathie of Savannah ,Ga; step-daughter, Cristy Banks Ware and husband Dean of Tignall; grandchildren, Cole Stevens, Chesnie Stevens, Stephen Broome, Jason Broome, Blake Ware and wife Maegen, Charlton Ware and wife Lindsey, Gracen Ware and Thomas Shores; great- grandchildren, Addison, Charli and Jaxson Ware; brother, Bobby Stevens of Washington, Ga and sister Dot Stevens Branham of Washington, Ga.
