His naval career took him all around the globe, filling him with stories of foreign lands and cultures that he loved to share with his family and friends. After retiring from the Navy, Gary settled in Memphis before finally moving to Washington, Georgia in 2017 to be closer to his son and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marti Dobbs; his parents, Wiley and Daisy Belle Rosselot Dobbs; his sisters, Tressa Bobrowski and Madge Scarlett; his brother, Gale Dobbs; and his dog, Kayla.
Beyond his family, Gary had a passion for collecting. An avid coin and stamp collector for over 40 years, Gary took great pleasure in the hunt for a rare find and the quiet hours spent examining his treasures. He also enjoyed the simple pleasure of feeding birds, often spending hours watching them from his window. He was of the Baptist faith.
