Frances Cornelia McAvoy Vandiver, 98, of Boneville Rd., Thomson, Georgia entered into eternal rest on November 24, 2021.
Frances was born in Washington, Georgia to the late Claude Michael McAvoy and the late Kate Smith McAvoy. She lived in the Sandy Cross Community of Taliaferro County most of her life and moved to Thomson in 1985. Frances was retired from Royal Manufacturing with over 40 years of service. She was the oldest member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church and attended Second Baptist Church in Thomson. Frances enjoyed gardening, and cooking for her family. She was especially known for her biscuit recipe. Her keen memory of the past allowed her to share many great stories to her family and friends. Frances was a true blessing to all. In addition to her parents, Frances was predeceased by her husband, Jimmy Lee Vandiver and son, James Roy Vandiver.
Survivors include her daughter, Annie Frances “Sally” Kitchens of Thomson; son, Vernon “Buddy” Vandiver (Margaret) of Washington; grandchildren, Ann Bowden, Smokey Kitchens, Keith Ball, Kay Coleman, Kathy Garrison, and Tina Carter; 10 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren; and 4 great great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, November 27th at Second Baptist Church, Thomson with Rev. Barry McAvoy and Rev. Lester Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers for the service are Smokey Kitchens, Phillip Carter, Trey Yergin, Dennis Allen, Steven Morris, and Danny McAvoy. Jerry Walker and Bobby Evans will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
