Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Jane May walked peacefully into the light of our Lord on September 21, 2021, at her residence in Burke, Virginia. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 21, 1929, she moved to New York as a teen where she later met and married her husband Emory Carlton May on June 23, 1956. They settled in Babylon, New York and began to raise a family. They moved to Northern Virginia in 1967, and settled in Falls Church, Virginia where she resided until September, 2020. Betty was known for being lighthearted, kind, and loving to all she met. She was especially fond of hosting gatherings with her family, preparing her famous lasagna, and playing lots and lots of games. A devout Catholic, she attended Saint James Catholic Church in Falls Church, Virginia, was involved in many charitable activities, and women’s groups. She is survived by her children: Richard of York, South Carolina, Linda and her husband Daniel Shanks of Arlington, Virginia, Joyce and her husband KC Haar of Fairfax Station, Virginia, David and his wife Lori of Dogue, Virginia, and Brian of Fairfax, Virginia, her grandchildren: Kathryn and Gary Harding, and Lauren and Emma Jones. Her loving husband Emory preceded her in death on May 8, 2012.
Visitation will be held at Beggs Funeral Home on Friday, October 1, 2021, from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. A Memorial Funeral Mass, being officiated by Father Stephen Lyness, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia with the interment following in the family cemetery in Thomson, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VITAS hospice care, or the charity of your choice.
Per CDC requirements, the family will be observing social distancing, and masks are requested and appreciated. Due to the current national health concern, the family would appreciate phone calls, cards, texts, and e-mails.
