Edwin Bentley Obituary

Mr. Edwin L. Bentley, 76 of Amity Woodlawn Rd. entered into rest Wednesday, November 15, 2017 near his childhood home in the Woodlawn community of Lincoln County.

Mr. Bentley son of the  late Harold L. and Dorothy Bentley was born in Washington on October 31, 1941.  At an early age, his parents taught him among other things, honesty, hard work and determination and he helped his father and grandfather in the corn fields, hay fields and garden.  In addition to the chores on the farm, he got a job at the Western Auto when he was in the 8th grade, then at Central Supermarket and graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1959. Afterwards, he went to work at McCormick Mill and was training as a supervisor when he received his draft notice in 1964. He served in the US Army in Korea in the DMZ until 1967.

When he returned home, he operated a logging company from 1969 until early 1982. Later that year, he went to work as a Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy.  In 1984, he was elected to the office of Sheriff of Lincoln County and served until 2004. Since retirement, he has operated Bentley Equipment and he enjoyed his bottle and toy collection. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, the Georgia Sheriff’s Association and the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Lee Bentley.

Survivors include his wife, Dory Bentley; step- sons, Albert Joseph Grabb, Jr., Jonathan Grabb, Jesse Grabb, and Joshua Grabb; step-daughters, Brandy Knight, Dia Winfrey, Krystal Arrington; Brothers, Gary Bentley, and Lewis Bentley; sister, Martha B. Aycock; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bentley, Cole Bentley, Mackenzie Arrington, Brandon Bowling, Makalynn Bowling and Zachary Grabb.
