Catherine Hill Obituary

Mrs. Catherine Waters Hill, affectionately known as “Lil Mama,” formerly of Lincolnton, entered into rest on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Washington Commons, Evans.

Mrs. Hill was born near Lakeland, Florida in the small town of Mulberry. Following the death of her mother only two months later, she was raised “behind the mountain in Lincoln County” by her mother’s brother and his wife, Millard “Millie”  and Cora Hudson Crook. She was retired from the Lincoln County Board of Education after 34 years as bookkeeper, but her duties required that she handle teacher certification, student and teacher attendance, bus schedules, lunchroom budgets, etc. In fact, she ran the day-to-day affairs of the Lincoln County School System, and her organizational skills were unmatched. All educators knew to call Mrs. Catherine if they needed help or information. Following her retirement, she continued employing her excellent organizational and professional communication skills as the executive secretary for the Lincoln County Development Authority. She was an original multi-tasker. She was also a woman of great taste and refinement. Mrs. Catherine was known as a pacesetter in fashion and home decor, and her natural elegance and exquisite taste were always reflected in her clothing and her beautiful home. Constant tweaking and attention to detail characterized her unique personality. She was a member of Lincolnton Baptist Church where she had taught the Junior Sunday School Class for many years and had been a Cub Scouts Den mother.

Her family includes her son, Marcus Adrian Hill and wife Faith; sister, Elsy Arnold; grandchildren, Amanda Hill Sandifer and husband Brad, Barbara Adrian Hill and fiancé Glen Reynolds; great- grandchildren, Whit Thomas Sandifer and Wes Marcus Sandifer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Adrian Hill; brothers, J.B. Waters, Alton Crook and sister, Eleanor Guillebeau.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 3 p.m. at Lincolnton Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Lincolnton City Cemetery.

Mrs Catherine requested that her obituary end with the quote that summarizes what she felt was most important in life: “Love is the tie that binds us together.”
