Betsy Weir
Mrs. Betsy Jane Weir, 84, entered into rest September 3, 2018.
Betsy was born in the small town of Fort Scott, Kansas in February of 1934. She was born into a family of 1 sister and 4 brothers. Her family moved to Ashland, Wisconsin where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband of 61 years.
The young couple moved to Thomson, Ga in 1969 and Betsy was a homemaker while raising the family’s two children. In Thomson, Betsy was active in the community through work in the Garden Club and through her love of writing. She was a regular columnist to local and regional newspapers on topics regarding her love of gardening and cooking. During this time, she discovered a love of writing in general and pursued that passion by joining several Augusta based poetry groups. Over the years she had several pieces published in regional and national publications. Her love of poetry culminated in an anthology of her works published in 2013, “From the Poet’s Corner”.
Betsy was predeceased by her husband, David J. Weir, brother Charles Gray and sister Nancy Baatz. She is survived by brothers Daniel, Clarence and Robert Gray. She is survived by her children Paul D. Weir and Bryan J. Weir, grandchildren James Weir, Debra Weir, Virginia Weir and Thomas Weir, as well as seven great grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 13 from 5:30 till 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to a charity of your choosing.
