Barbara Loraine Flannery Turpin
Washington, GA – Mrs. Barbara Loraine Flannery Turpin, 86, went to be with the Lord on March 18, 2021 in Wilkes County, Georgia, after an extended illness. She was born December 10, 1934 to the late Martin Van Buren Flannery and Amanda Siller Blevins Flannery in Sandy Hook, Elliott County, Kentucky. She was married on May 25, 1958, in Jacksonville to her late husband George Augustus “Gus” Turpin for almost 60 years. Mrs. Turpin spent most of her adult life living in Florida where she and her husband meet and she worked in retail as a Sales Associate in different stores all over Florida with McCrorys, formerly H. L. Green. She and her husband loved living in Florida and traveling when they got the opportunity to Las Vegas, The Holy Land, Egypt and others. Barbara and her husband moved back to Georgia in 2014. She attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for as long as she was able. She loved collecting trinkets, collecting seashells, loved her pets and especially loved her family and friends.
Mrs. Turpin was preceded in death by all of her immediate and extended family. She was survived by her sister-in-laws, Mary Turpin McPherson, Margaret Turpin Montigny, Lucille Turpin Ingram and Lucille Stoflet Turpin and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
Pallbearers are John-Michael McPherson, Jacob Edward McPherson, Joseph McPherson, Augustus Allen McPherson, James McPherson, Claud Eugene Ingram and Paul Wyle Ingram.
A Visitation Service will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 2200 Wrightsboro Road, Washington, GA 30673 (Aonia Community) from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon with Graveside Funeral Service following in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. will Pastor Melissa Reynolds officiating. In lieu of flowers, please remember Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, with offerings to their Cemetery Fund.
Per CDC requirements, the family will be observing social distancing. Masks are requested and appreciated. Due to the current national health concern, the family would appreciate phone calls, cards, texts, and e-mails.
