Warrenton, GA- Mrs. Willie Amanda Merritt Johnson, 94, entered into rest November 18, 2014 at University Hospital McDuffie.
Mema as she was affectionately known was born November 11, 1920 in Hancock County, Georgia to the late William Henry Merritt and the late Laura Cheely Merritt. She lived in Warren County most of her life and was truly the best example of a Southern homemaker. Mema was a faithful member of Mesena United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her five brothers; her husband of 71 years, James Alton "Jimmy" Johnson and daughter, Patsy Johnson Pearson. She is survived by two sons, Aaron Johnson and wife, Rita, Alton Johnson and wife, Jo; and one daughter, Laura Mae Price and husband, Harold all of Warrenton; eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2014 in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Herring officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family of Mrs. Johnson would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Warrenton Health and Rehabilitation for the exceptional care and love given to her during the past 18 months.
It was the request of Mrs. Johnson that memorials be made to a church of your choice.
Friends may call at Mrs. Johnson's residence, 496 Jimmy Johnson Rd., Warrenton, Georgia or the family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m, Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Rd., Thomson, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
