Biography

WILLIAM H. "BILLY" HALL PRESIDENT OF GA WOOD PRESERVING MR. WIILIAM H. "BILLY" HALL 84 of Wrens Road. Thomson, Georgia entered into rest November 10, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 12, 2008 from Sweetwater Baptist Church with Revs. J. B. Redd and Kenneth Garvin officiating. Interment will follow at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Mr. Hall was born in Harlem, Georgia, the son of the late Alfred Jack Hall and Virtie Quinn. After his father passed away during Mr. Hall's early years, his loving stepfather George King raised him. At an early age he began selling peanuts to the workers at the Camak rock quarry, while attending school at Camak and later graduating from Warrenton High School in 1941. The day after graduating from high school he began working for Western Brooker in Camak where he was employed for 10 years. For more than 50 years he operated the business he founded and was involved in the day to day operations of Georgia Wood Preserving until only a few months ago. In addition to his business success Mr. Hall was active in the community and his church serving as deacon emeritus at Sweetwater Baptist Church in Thomson, and as a past director of Peoples Bank of Crawfordville. He also served as a director of the Thomson Lions Club. Survivors include: Brenda McElveen, Grovetown, Georgia, Carol Hall, Thomson, Georgia, Kathie Reeder and husband Steve, Social Circle, Georgia, Margie Sosebee and husband Tom, Ringold, Georgia, Becky Edmond and husband Bobby, Montgomery, Alabama, and Bill Hall and wife Mary Ann, Thomson, Georgia, John McBrayer, Augusta,Georgia, Clay Hall and wife Melissa, Grovetown, Georgia. Additional survivors include 14 Grandchildren: Cliff Reeder, Will Boyd, Timothy Boyd, Ryan Tyndall, Bart Reeder, Jacob Reeder, Henry Hall, Jeremy Edmond, Robbie Edmond, Haiden Grey, Stacey McElveen, Gerry Hall, Hollis Wells, Ali Maness and 4 Great-Grandchildren. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his brothers Jack Hall and Wesley King. The family is especially grateful to all his caregivers who enabled him to spend his final months in the comfort of his home and particularly Karen Meeks who was so compassionate and exceptional to him. Memorials may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children's Home or to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
