William Belton Harmon, Sr., affectionately known as Billy to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia. Born on June 24, 1936, in Swainsboro in the heart of Georgia, Billy was the son of the late Frank B. Harmon, Jr. and Elese Hammond Harmon Deason. From his early days in Lincolnton, he joined the Lincolnton Baptist Church. At Lincolnton High School, Billy's athletic prowess shone brightly as he lettered in both football and baseball before graduating in 1954. His competitive spirit and discipline would become hallmarks of his character throughout his life. Following high school, Billy answered the call of duty, proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. His 20-year tenure was marked by dedication and distinction, particularly in the field of intelligence. Billy's service took him across the globe, from the mountains of Korea to the shores of Japan, and he retired with honor after the Vietnam War while stationed near Sacramento. The pull of home was strong for Billy, and upon his retirement, he eagerly returned to his roots in Lincolnton, Georgia. He transitioned to civilian life with the same sense of purpose that had guided his military career, taking on a role as a security officer at Crider's Poultry a few years later. Beyond his professional life, Billy's passion for sports remained a constant source of joy. He was an ardent supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Lincoln County Red Devils, his loyalty unwavering as he attended games season after season. His presence in the stands was a testament to his enduring spirit and love for the game, cheering on his teams with vigor whenever his health allowed. He is survived by his sister, Frankie Harmon; sons, Danny Harmon, Ricky Harmon, William B. Harmon, Jr., David Harmon, Steven Harmon and Jimmy Harmon; 11 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joan Harmon and his son Eugene Harmon.
