Waneta Mast Lovitt
Waneta Lovitt, age 97, passed away May 24, 2013 at her home in Martinez, Georgia. She was born December 17, 1915 in a sod house in Leoti, Kansas to Lanton and Carrie (Seidel) Mast. She is preceded in death by her brother John Mast and her sister Martha Chapman.
She married Francis V. Lovitt on September 11, 1934 in Wakeeney, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1958. They had two daughters Peggy Joy Pratt and Kay Frances Meier who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Lovitt is survived by her granddaughters Dee Newton (Sam) of Grovetown, GA and Marla Lockhart (Charles) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and 3 great grandsons Tripp (William) Boyd III (Kensey), Walker Boyd and Ross Newton.
She faced hardship at an early age when her mother died and she was forced to quit school when she was quarantined for scarlet fever at age 13. She worked at the Utica hotel for room and board until she married. She started working at the Utica Post Office as a clerk in 1951 and was appointed acting postmaster in 1968. She retired as postmaster in 1980.
Waneta was an extremely talented seamstress and a wonderful cook. She was a member of the Utica First Christian Church and enjoyed living in Utica and participating in community activities. She was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her family.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the caregivers that provided loving care to Mrs. Lovitt during the last several years of her life.
Burial and graveside services will be held at the Utica Cemetery on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.
Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, Georgia is in charge of local arrangements.
