Walter Moss Holloway

Walter Moss Holloway, a kind and gentle soul, whose faith-filled life was a testament to his strong character, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at the age of 94, in Lincolnton, Georgia. Born on August 28, 1930, in the close-knit community of Double Branches, Walter was a man whose actions spoke louder than words, touching the lives of all who knew him. Walter was the beloved husband of Betty Jean Brown Holloway, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories since their first date on a hayride at Double Branches Baptist Church Fall Festival. Together, they built a family that includes their devoted son, Kenneth and his wife Barbara; their adoring grandchildren, Nick Sheppard and his wife Amanda, as well as Brittney Lively and her husband Blake; and their treasured great-grandchildren, Lexi, Alli, Addi Mae, Lane Lively, and Autumn Sheppard. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Ellis and Annie Lang Holloway; his brothers, Milton, Herman, Clarence, Ralph, E.W., Boykin, Leslie, and Manly Holloway; his sister, Ruby Haynes; and an infant sister. Walter's early years were spent in the fields of his family's farm, where he learned the values of hard work and perseverance. He attended Four Points School, where the foundations of his education were laid, preparing him for the various roles he would take on in his professional life. Walter worked alongside Thomas Haynes on the sawmill, shared time at a furniture factory in North Carolina with his brother Ralph and dedicated five years to Milliken Mills in McCormick. His varied career also included time in construction with Henry L. Trottman and many years as a motor grader operator for Lincoln County, where he was known for his skill and dedication. At the age of 62, in the mid-1980s, Walter experienced a profound transformation when he gave his heart to Jesus. This pivotal moment led him to become a member of Martin's Crossroads Congregational Holiness Church, where he served and worshipped with fervor for the remainder of his life. Walter's commitment to his faith was evident in every aspect of his life, from his interactions with others to his unwavering integrity. He was a man of simple pleasures, finding joy in the fellowship of his church, the companionship of his family, and the satisfaction of a job well done. He loved to ride a tractor or a lawn mower.  He always enjoyed yardwork and attending to his vegetable garden.  His life was a tapestry of the moments shared with those he loved and the quiet strength he provided to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Walter Moss Holloway will be remembered not just for the work he accomplished, but for the man he was: steadfast, compassionate, and always guided by his faith. His legacy is one of love and service, and it will continue to live on through the generations of his family and the countless lives he touched. The Holloway family takes comfort in knowing that Walter is now at peace, reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him. As they mourn his passing, they also celebrate the remarkable life of a man who was the very embodiment of kindness and grace. Walter's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who remember his gentle, loving nature.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Martin's Crossroads Congregational Holiness Church with the interment following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the time of the service in the church's sanctuary.
