Virginia Martin Turner, known affectionately as Jenny by her loved ones, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024 at her residence in Lincolnton, Georgia.
Jenny grew up in Lincolnton where she graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1951. A year later and just two weeks after her 18th birthday, she married her sweetheart, Edward S. "Ed" Turner, Sr., on June 23, 1952. Together they built not just a family, but also a business that would become a staple in their community.
A master seamstress, Jenny's skilled hands were well known at Oxford Manufacturing in her early years. Her talents were further showcased when she and Ed opened Lincolnton Dry Cleaners. Initially situated beside what is now the Lincolnton Fire Department, the business later moved to Main Street in the mid-1970s. For over five decades, Jenny and Ed worked side by side, serving the people of Lincoln County with a dedication that was surpassed only by their commitment to each other and their family. Jenny's life was a reflection of her values: loving, faith-filled, and selfless. She was a devoted member of the First Assembly of God, where she cherished the fellowship of her Adult Sunday School class. Her faith was her compass, guiding her through life's challenges and joys with grace and resilience. Family was the cornerstone of Jenny's world. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her sons, Edward Sanders "Eddy" Turner, Jr. and his wife Lilly, and James Bruce Turner and his wife Donna, all of Lincolnton; her joy was multiplied through her grandchildren, Anna Turner Williams and husband Tripp, Tyson Edward Turner and wife Anitra, Kristen Turner Shelton and husband Killian, and Jaime Turner Bass and husband Blake and great-grandchildren, Turner Williams, Everett Turner, Asher Turner, Aubrey Jones, Isabelle Jones, Hazel Jones, Harper Bass, Riley Bass, and Lenox Bass. Jenny's love extended beyond her immediate family to those who cared for her in her later years. Caregivers Phyllis Norman, Jessie Beard, Ann Freeman, Bobbie Hogan, and Dot Parks became part of her extended family, providing comfort and companionship with compassion and kindness. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Edward S. "Ed" Turner, Sr., a testament to a love that endures beyond the mortal realm. Her departure was also preceded by her siblings, Laverne Hardy, James R. Martin, and Eleanor Colvin, with whom she now shares a heavenly reunion. Jenny's love for life was evident in her passion for travel, her delight in cooking for her family, and the joy she took in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even as her health declined, her spirit remained undiminished, a testament to a life lived with purpose and love. Virginia "Jenny" Turner's story is one of unwavering love, enduring faith, and a selflessness that touched all who knew her. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate a life rich in the things that matter most
Jenny's presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and in the community she served so faithfully. The tapestry of her life, woven with threads of love and kindness, will remain a cherished memory for generations to come.
