Jewell, Georgia- Mr. Vernon James Newsome, 89, of Jewell Rd., Jewell, GA entered into rest October 19, 2017 at Thomson Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Newsome was born in Jefferson County, GA to the late Elbert Newsome and the late Melinda McCoy Newsome. He lived in Jewell, GA most of his life and was retired as supervisor from JEBCO in Warrenton, GA. Mr. Newsome was a member of Jewell Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting, fox hunting, horseback riding and dancing. He was predeceased by a son, Russell Newsome and wife, Phyelis Anderson Newsome; step daughter, Jackie Winslette; sisters, Ruby and Jean; brothers Lester, Wilber, John and Homer Newsome.

Survivors include his son, Keith Newsome (Beth) of Jewell, GA; step children, Leon Parham (Jeannie) of Eatonton, GA and Kenneth Parham (Alicia) of Largo, FL; brother, Lewis Newsome of Warrenton, GA; sister, Edna Hobbs of Martinez, GA; 8 grandchildren, Heather Aycock, Brooke Young, Greg Winslette, Kerry Chambers, Kathy Coleman, Dennis Parham, Kevin Parham, and Dana Hicks and 17 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock p.m., Monday, October 23, 2017 at the Jewell Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Parham officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Monday at the church prior to the service.
