Tutt Dunaway

Tutt Dunaway, 63 formerly of Lincolnton, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at his residence in Evans, Ga.

The only child of the late John Alexander and Colleen Cox Dunaway, Tutt was born in Dr. Pennington’s clinic in Lincolnton December 8, 1962.

Tutt's early years were spent on the sprawling Dunaway Ranch, where his love for the land and its creatures was kindled amidst the pastures and hayfields nestled against the waters of Dry Fork and Soap Creek. Though he did not pursue a career in cattle farming, the landscape and the bonds with livestock remained close to his heart throughout his life. During his formative years, he earned the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout. In 1981, during Tutt’s Senior year in high school, his father passed away. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) but returned soon after

With the gift of gab, he never met a stranger. Tutt had an innate ability to make everyone feel like they were his best friend. His free spirit shone through in his love for a Camel nonfilter cigarette, his skill at the pool table, and his passion for playing cards. He was a fervent supporter of Georgia Football, and a typical game day for Tutt included a stop at The Varsity, where he would indulge in a dozen chiliburgers, all devoured before the day's end.

The heart of Tutt's many interests his love for cooking. He took particular joy in sharing his culinary creations with his daughter, Liz, passing recipes that would preserve his spirit and flavor for generations to come. His enthusiasm even to music as he was a devoted fan of the Doobie Brothers, often finding solace and inspiration in their melodies.

He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth “Liz” Dunaway Spratlin and her husband Russ; granddaughters, Avery Spratlin and Faye Beth Spratlin and his aunt Emily Dunaway Hester.
