Tonia Pope Sweeney, born March 24, 1973, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to James and Ruby Pope, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and creativity that will not soon be forgotten.
Tonia never met a stranger. Whether you were a lifelong friend or someone she had just met in line at the store, she greeted you with warmth and genuine interest. Conversation came naturally to her — and if you stopped to listen, you were sure to hear a story. She always had one ready. Her stories were animated, heartfelt, and often hilariously told, filled with her quick wit and unmistakable sense of humor. Time spent with Tonia was rarely quiet and never boring.
She was also an avid crafter, gifted with the ability to turn simple materials into beautiful creations. Her hands were rarely still, and her creativity was simply another way she showed love. Every handmade item carried a piece of her heart — thoughtful, detailed, and made with care.
Above all, Tonia cherished her family. She valued time spent together, the laughter shared around a table, and the memories created in everyday moments. Her presence brought lightness and joy, and her humor could lift even the heaviest day.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Tonia is survived by her children Corie Smith (David) of Washington, Ga, Kaylee Williams(Trace) of Dearing, Ga, and Trenton Slaton of Comer, Ga. She also leaves behind her five cherished grandchildren, Madalyn Slaton, Kendra Payne, Noah Smith, Ezekiel Smith, and Bailee Slaton. Tonia is also survived by two sisters, Jamie Stafford of Lincolnton, Ga and Teresa Davis of Evans, Ga, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who became family.
A memorial service will be held in the near future.
Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Tonia Pope Sweeney.
