Mr. Tommy McGraw, a cherished soul whose life was a testament to his faith, love for music, and boundless generosity, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia. Born on November 2, 1951, in the same vibrant city, Tommy's life was a beautiful journey that touched the hearts of everyone he met. He walked through life with a song in his heart and love on his lips, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and devotion. Tommy graduated from Butler High School in 1969, a proud Bulldog who carried the spirit of his alma mater throughout his life. He began his professional career in sales at Vic Crenshaw Harley Davidson, where for 20 years he was known for his infectious smile and the ability to make every customer feel like family. In 1998, he transitioned to the Medical College of Georgia, serving in the records department and greeting patients with warmth as a front desk clerk in family care. Tommy's work was more than a job; it was an extension of his caring nature, a way to connect with and support his community. Beyond his professional endeavors, Tommy was a man of profound faith and musical talent. He sang tenor with the Southern Song Masters for 15 years, lifting spirits and spreading joy through his voice. His love for Southern gospel music also led him to sing with Maranatha, Masters City, and the Brazells singers, ensembles that were graced by his dedication and talent. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Augusta for many years but for the last two years had attended Faith Community Church. Tommy's passion for music was only surpassed by his love for his family and his unshakeable faith in Jesus. Tommy's family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a loving father and grandfather, survived by his son, Nathan McGraw (Heather) of Columbia, SC; his daughters, Kristina Potter of Taylors, SC; Stephanie Hild (Courtney) of Lincolnton, GA; Jennifer Love (Brian) of Thomson, GA; and Melanie Baldwin (Alan) of Harlem, GA. He was also a doting grandfather to fifteen grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life. Tommy was predeceased by his beloved wife, Karen Shively McGraw, with whom he shared a love that was a beacon of strength and comfort to their family. Those who knew Tommy would describe him as faith-filled, thoughtful, and selfless. He lived his faith through his actions, always ready to help those in need. His selflessness was evident in his final days, as he was about to drive a neighbor for medical care when he passed away. His willingness to give the shirt off his back for anyone in need was not just a saying but a way of life for Tommy. The loss of Mr. Tommy McGraw will be profoundly felt by many, but his spirit will continue to resonate in the lives of those he touched. His example of unwavering faith, love for his family, and generosity of spirit will remain a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing him. As he reunites with his wife Karen in eternal peace, his family takes comfort in the knowledge that his legacy of love and kindness will forever be a part of their lives. Tommy McGraw's life was a melody of compassion and service, a harmony of devotion to his loved ones, and a chorus of goodwill to all. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the countless ways he enriched our lives and the enduring memories he leaves behind. May his song continue to uplift us, and his memory be a blessing to all.
His Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Faith Community Church at 3:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior in the church sanctuary. Interment will follow at Savannah Valley Memorial Garden in Thomson.
