Thomas Edward Quarles, known to many simply as Thomas, passed away on May 20, 2026, in Lincolnton, Georgia, at the age of 64. Born on July 15, 1961, in Lincoln County, Georgia, he lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures that brought him joy. He was a beloved father, brother, uncle, and grandfather whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Thomas spent his early years in Lincoln County before moving to Charleston, South Carolina, at the age of 14. That move became an important chapter in his life, shaping the man he would become and broadening the experiences that stayed with him throughout the years.
In his early thirties, he returned to Lincolnton, Georgia, where he established his own business, Quarles Painting, and built a respected career as a professional painter. Through his work, he earned a reputation for reliability, skill, and pride in a job well done. Thomas’s greatest joys were often found outdoors. His all-time favorite hobby was wild hog hunting, and he also enjoyed fishing whenever he had the opportunity. He found pleasure in the traditions and routines that connected him to the land and to the people who shared those interests with him. He was also a devoted Miami Dolphins fan and took pride in cheering for his team through the years. These interests were part of what made him who he was, and they brought him many happy memories.
He is survived by his children, Shannon Owens, Christopher Owens, and Kyle Owens, all of Charleston, South Carolina, and Megan Bridges of Elberton, Georgia. He is also survived by his brother, Bobby Quarles of Lincolnton; his sister, Joyce Dadhirao and her husband Gopal of New York; his uncle, James “Penny” Dill; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His family was an important part of his life, and he cherished the bonds he shared with them. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Mitchell and Elsie Dill Quarles, and his sister, Elizabeth Goolsby. Their memory remained a part of his life, and he carried the influence of his family with him throughout the years. The love and lessons he received from them helped shape the man he became and the legacy he leaves behind.
Those who knew Thomas will remember him as a hardworking man with a strong spirit and a straightforward manner. He lived his life in a way that reflected his values, and he found meaning in family, work, and the activities he loved.
