Mrs. Therissa Gay Burke Peavy, affectionately known as "Aunt Tootsie", passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Dublin, Georgia, at the age of 80. Born on November 6, 1944, in Augusta, Georgia, to Hoyt David and Frances Scott Burke, Therissa's life was marked by her unwavering spirit and the love she shared with her family and community. Aunt Tootsie's journey began in the southern charm of Augusta, where she grew up. In her early years, she embraced the role of a dedicated military wife as her husband, James Otis Peavy, served in the Army. The couple's adventures took them far from home to Saudi Arabia, where Therissa worked as a secretary for five years while her husband, a Texan born with oil in his blood, worked in the oil fields. Her adaptability and resilience shone brightly as she navigated life in a foreign country, all the while maintaining the close-knit bonds of her family. Upon returning to the Augusta area while her husband remained in Saudi Arabia, Therissa's nurturing nature was evident as she raised their son, Mark, and worked as a waitress. Her caring demeanor and friendly smile became familiar to many in the community. When James retired, they moved to Lincolnton and embarked on a new venture with a large homestead and operating the 378 Package Shop in McCormick, SC. Afterwards, she managed the T60 Bar and Grill in Savannah Lakes for a short time. In recent years, she has been a member of West Acres Baptist Church.
Therissa's life was one of service and love, not only to her family but also to her community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will be cherished by all who knew her. Though she was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Otis Peavy, her son, Mark Peavy, her brother, Scotty Burke, her parents, Hoyt David and Frances Scott Burke, and her cherished dog, Sophie, her memory will live on through her loving family. She is survived by her adoring grandchildren, Bradley Peavy of Dublin, Mina Peavy of McCormick, Montana Peavy of McCormick, and Jesse James Peavy of California, as well as four great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Her brothers, Tommy Burke and wife Polly of Evans and Hank Burke and wife Shirley of Evans, along with numerous nieces and nephews, will hold dear the countless memories they shared.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025 from1 pm until 2pm at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton with graveside services following at 2:30pm at Hephzibah Baptist Church Cemetery.
