Steve Burch

Henry Stevenson "Steve" Burch, Jr., a man of kind spirit and loving heart, passed away on May 11, 2024, in McCormick, South Carolina. Born on July 30, 1948, in Atlanta, Georgia, Steve was a beacon of light to all who knew him, embodying the warmth of Southern hospitality through his gentle nature and unfailing generosity. Steve, the cherished son of the late Henry S. and Mary Remsen Burch, grew up in a world that was rapidly changing, yet he held fast to the values of family, hard work, and perseverance. He was a proud graduate of College Park High School in 1966, where he first demonstrated his love for words and storytelling. He attended Middle Georgia College and the University of Georgia for three years. His journalistic aspirations led him to the University of Georgia, where he studied for three years with dreams of becoming a journalist. Although he would later embark on a successful career with Delta Airlines in 1979, retiring in 2007, Steve's passion for journalism, particularly NASCAR journalism, never waned. Indeed, he would often share vivid tales of the races he attended, his eyes alight with excitement as he recounted the triumphs of his favorite drivers, including Buddy Baker, Kyle Busch, and Sterling Marlin. Despite his professional achievements, Steve's true legacy lies in the close-knit family he nurtured and adored, all of whom have helped see that he had the best care during the past couple of years as his health failed. He is survived by his loving sons, Eric Burch (Jenny) of McCormick, and Brian Burch (Christa) of McDonough; his devoted daughter, Karen Harris and her husband Richard of Barnesville; and his cherished grandchildren, Bryson Burch, Carson Burch, Jocelynn Adams (married to Connor), Braylee Burch, Carly Harris, and Cole Harris. His memory will also be treasured by the Castles, the Condreys, and his entire lake family. Steve's life was touched by joy and sorrow alike, having been preceded in death by his dear sister, Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Condrey, his one true love, Pamela Green Burch and his beloved granddaughter, Jayla Burch. Raised in the Methodist faith, Steve grew to be a man who understood the value of spiritual community. Although in later years he did not regularly attend church, he remained a steadfast proponent of faith's importance in life, encouraging his family to seek solace and fellowship within the church's embrace.

As we bid farewell to Henry Stevenson "Steve" Burch, Jr., we are reminded of the indelible mark he has left on this world. His stories, his laughter, and his gentle spirit will continue to resonate within the hearts of his family, his friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W Alexander Ave., Greenwood 29646.
