Warrenton, Georgia- Mr. Laurel D. "Sonny" Pierce, Jr., 72, of Brown Circle, entered into rest December 23, 2015.
Mr. Pierce was born in Charleston, SC to the late Laurel Denell Pierce, Sr. and the late Sarah Griswell Philpott. He lived in Warrenton, GA most of his life. He was an employee of the Georgia Department of Transportation for 34 years and retired as an Auditor. After retirement, he worked as a Consultant for Moreland and Altobelli and Parsons and Brinkerhoff. He was a member of the GDOTEA. Mr. Pierce was a faithful and devoted member of First Baptist Church, Warrenton where he served as Deacon and worked with the Royal Ambassadors for many years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pierce was predeceased by his brother, Fred Allen Philpott and a sister, Joyce Elizabeth Philpott McDonald.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Mickey Davis Pierce; daughters, Stacey P. Kent (David Hale) of Thomson; Leigh P. Grant and husband, Phillip of Hartwell; sister, Gay David of Augusta; grandchildren, Jeffrey Kent, Michael Kent, Eli Grant, Ivy Grant, Emma Grant; caregivers, Mary Lewis and Annie Lois Kendrick and seven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock p.m., Monday, December 28 th in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home with Dr. Brandon Furr officiating. Interment will follow in the Camak Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m., Sunday, December 27 th at the funeral home.
