Shirley Hinton Jackson
Shirley Hinton Jackson of Keysville and Athens, 78, wife of James Laurence Jackson, entered into rest Saturday, September 13, 2014 at her Keysville home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home in Thomson with Dr. Sheila Bookout officiating. Interment will follow at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 18 at Tuckston Methodist Church in Athens.
Mrs. Jackson was born on December 16, 1935 in Lincolnton, GA to Edward Lamar Hinton and Mabel Combs Hinton. She graduated from Thomson High School and attended LaGrange College, where she met her husband. They moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, where she graduated from Indiana State and became a high school English teacher.
Mr. and Mrs. Jackson returned to Georgia in 1959, living in Decatur before settling in Athens in 1967. Mrs. Jackson taught in the public schools for several years before assuming the role of a full time homemaker and couturier.
Mrs. Jackson was an active member of Tuckston Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 25 years. She was also involved in PTA, holding several local offices and serving on the state board.
In addition to her husband, her survivors include her daughter Victoria Price of Keysville, her son Joseph (Lori) of Dallas, Texas, and her son Jonathan (Cheryl) of Marietta, Georgia, and her brother Lamar Hinton of Thomson, as well as 5 grandchildren, Alexandria, Jackson, Caroline, Aidan, and Audrey.
Pallbearers will be Jackson Price, Tommy Hinton, Roy Stampley III, Robert Stampley, Chris Brown, and Robert Vickroy.

Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Rd., Thomson, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
