SFC. Robert M. Rainaud, US Army Retired entered into rest on Friday, March 21st at Georgia War Veterans Home in Augusta. He was 82 years old.
SFC. Rainaud, a native of Rochester, N.H. and U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict, received the Purple Heart for his service during 1950 as one of the "Frozen Chosen," a group of 8000 US soldiers, mostly Marines, that survived the coldest winter in 100 years in Korea while surrounded by 120,000 Chinese soldiers in temperatures around 50 below.
After 10 years as a Marine, he joined the Army and finished his military career 12 years later in 1970 during Vietnam.
In 1977, he and "Val" moved back to her hometown in Lincolnton and he worked for five years in maintenance at LCES. He had been an active member of the American Legion in Seaside, CA. and was a life member of the VFW.
His son Keith A. Rainaud, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 26th at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Revs. Thomas Moon and Paul Reviere officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Grove UMC Cemetery Fund,
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Grove United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.
