Sebastian Paul Runza, known to many simply as Sebastian, passed away on May 19, 2026, in McCormick, South Carolina, at the age of 67. Born on July 28, 1958, in Jamaica, Queens, New York, Sebastian grew up with a strong sense of drive, curiosity, and determination that would guide him throughout his life. He carried the energy of his New York upbringing with him always, along with a spirited nature that made a lasting impression on those who knew him best. His life was marked by ambition, resilience, and a genuine enjoyment of the world around him. Sebastian attended Chaminade College Preparatory, where he graduated in 1976, and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Drake University in 1980. His education laid the foundation for a career defined by hard work, adaptability, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
Over the years, he built a diverse professional life that reflected both his talents and his willingness to embrace new opportunities. He spent years selling magazine subscriptions to doctors’ and dentists’ offices, a line of work that required persistence, confidence, and a natural ability to connect with people literally dialing for dollars. He later pursued real estate speculation in Charleston, Isle of Palms, and Mt. Pleasant waterfront properties, where his eye for opportunity and his understanding of the market served him well. For the past 20 years, he worked as a life insurance broker, continuing to serve others with professionalism and dedication.
Sebastian enjoyed life to the fullest and found happiness in the water, where he felt most at home. He loved pleasure boating, jet skiing, and all activities that brought him close to the open water. He was fast paced and always on the move, and fishing was never quite his style, though he could be seen getting some real air on a jet ski. His enthusiasm for life was evident in everything he did, and his spirited personality made him memorable to friends, family, and all who crossed his path.
He was also a devoted fan of the Carolina Panthers and remained steadfast in his support through every season, never giving up hope that he would one day see them win a Super Bowl. That loyalty reflected a larger truth about Sebastian himself. He was a man who believed in staying the course, enjoying the journey, and holding on to optimism no matter what life brought his way.
As a faithful servant of the Lord Sebastian anchored their family in the love of Jesus. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, prayer, and unconditional love.
Sebastian will be remembered for his energy, his determination, and the way he embraced life with enthusiasm. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, his Christian faith, independence, and a deep appreciation for the pleasures of everyday living. Those who knew him will remember his love of things that go fast “Go Speed Go”, his love of the water, and the unmistakable presence he brought into every room and every gathering.
Sebastian is survived by his loving wife Olga of 17 years, his three children Joseph (Nicole) Runza, Daniel Runza, and Rosabelle Runza, his 6 beautiful grandchildren, his siblings, Francesca Inchaurregui, Gabrielle (William) Marvin, Nicholas (Denise) Runza, and Michael (Jalin) Runza, his parents Joseph (Jane) Runza, many nieces and nephews, and his dog, Macho. He is preceded by his mother, Grace Runza, and his best friend who was loved as a brother, Juan C.
Funeral plans will be announced later by Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton.
