Sara James Cranford, 85, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on August 22, 2022.
Sara was born in Wrens, Georgia on October 16, 1936, and lived in Thomson most of her life. She worked at Uniroyal in Thomson and was one of the first group of people hired when the plant opened and the longest employed person when it closed 18 years later. Sara worked in the Personnel Department as a training instructor. She was Methodist by faith and a member of Prospect Methodist, attended Boneville Methodist and became a lay speaker in 2010. Sara was an avid baseball fan and reader, enjoyed crafts, cooking, gardening, and wrote poetry. She was the McDuffie County Senior Citizen of the Year in 2012 and Mother's Day winner of McDuffie Progress and a past member of the Thomson Rose Society and the Augusta Rose Society and won many awards and ribbons. She loved serving her Lord and Savior and loved spending time with her family and friends.
Sara was preceded in death by her biological parents, Josephus James and Ada McGraw James; the parents that raised her, Homer Perdue and Nancy Elizabeth "Lizzie" Adams Perdue; her beloved husband, Newton D. Cranford, Sr.; her son, Jeffery Cranford; her sister, Louise Coe; and her brothers, Jack James and John James. Her survivors include her children, Marcia Faglier (Wayne), of Thomson, James Cranford (Donna) of Easley, SC, Debbie Crosby (Jimmy) of Dearing, Marilyn Morris of Aiken, SC, Rev. Newton Cranford (Charla) of Bainbridge, GA; her grandchildren, Brad Ansley (Jennifer), Tab Ansley (Molly), Korey Cranford (Wendy), Bridgett Turpin, Nikki Johnson (Sam), Crystal Reeves, Josh Cranford (Dena), Lacey Mosely (John) and Carley Cranford; her brother-in-law, Ronnie Cranford (Brenda) and sister-in-law, Pansy Pearson, Mary Cranford, Kathy Cranford and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
It is the family's request that Memorial Contributions may be made to Boneville United Methodist Church, 3890 Mitchner Road, Dearing, GA 30808 or to the Prospect Cemetery Association, c/o Kathy Gloseclose, 135 Plantation Drive, Athens, GA 30606..
Her Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 , from 6 until 8 pm at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Rd., Thomson, Georgia, and her Funeral Service, being officiated by Rev. Gary Dean and Rev. Newton Cranford, will be held at 11 am, Thursday, August 24, 2022 in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with the interment following at Prospect Methodist Church, Norwood, Georgia. Pallbearers for the service are Brad Ansley, Tab Ansley, Korey Cranford, Josh Cranford, Ethan Ansley, Carson Ansley, Sam Johnson, and Brandon Dunaway.
