Sara Linda Whitaker, 82, Dearing, Georgia, entered into rest November 8th, 2024. She was born in Dearing, Georgia on December 13th, 1941, and grew up in McDuffie County. She lived her life traveling the country as a military wife and raised their family in Altamonte Springs, FL. Soon after her husband's retirement they settled back down in Dearing, GA where she was an active member at New Hope Baptist Church in Thomson, GA. Affectionately known as Mema to all that met her, her generosity allowed her to open her heart and home to everyone. She enjoyed nature and gardening but most of all her fur babies. She adored her family and was blessed with many who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Heggie Whitaker; her parents, Robert E. Lee Carithers and Edna Jane Howard Carithers; her son in law Bart Toney; and her brothers, Robert Carithers, Huey Carithers and William Carithers. Sara's survivors include her son, Quentin Whitaker(Brooke Dowling); her daughters, Sonja Whitaker, Cheryl White(Mike), Sheila Toney, Cyndi Wells Condon(Bobby); her sisters, Annie Ruth Clark and Sandra Church; her grandchildren, Pamela Schuster(Tameca Woodall), Nicola Palma, Alisha Rabun(Russell Rogers), Kayla Rodgers, Javen Wells, Jeffrey Wells, Nicole Condon, Robert Condon, Elijah Whitaker and Luke Whitaker; her great grandchildren McKenzie Brandt(Christian Giraldo), Jordan Robinson, Austin DeUnger, Sophia Ogletree, Rheya Rodgers, Raelyn Rodgers and great great grandson, Luka Giraldo. The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to Allay Hospice, Nurse Nikki Thigpen and the rest of the staff, Wendy's Senior Services Care Giver Elizabeth Ailstock as well as family friend and caregiver, Camille Mccallhart-Williams.
A graveside memorial will be held on November 16th, 2024 at 2pm at Harlem Memorial Cemetery in Harlem, GA, being officiated by Chaplain Harold Harris. Family will receive friends and family following the graveside service at the home of Ms. Linda. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to "2 Hands Saving 4 Paws", the animal rescue in McDuffie County.
