Ruben Alvin Scott

Mr. Ruben Alvin Scott, 94, entered into rest on August 10, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia. Born on September 2, 1930, in Lincoln County to the late William J. and Fannie Mae Tullis Scott, Georgia, Ruben's life was a testament to the enduring spirit of the American South, a narrative rich with history, hard work, and heartfelt stories. Ruben was born and raised in the Lovelace community. As a young boy he attended services at Bethany United Church, fostering a faith that would guide him throughout his life. His roots ran deep in Lincoln County, where he would remain a lifelong resident, embodying the values and traditions of his beloved hometown. A proud veteran, Ruben served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army during the Koren Conflict from June 1951 until 1953. His stories from those times in Germany became a cherished part of his legacy. After his military service, Ruben returned to his roots and built a life following in his father's footsteps running a sawmill and years later owning a logging operation. Later in life, he was a long haul truck driver and returned to logging assisting his son-in-law as a log truck driver for several years before retiring. His work was not merely a job but a passion, one that allowed him to connect with the land and the people he so loved. Ruben was known for his gift of storytelling and recalling vivid details with every story told. With accounts of his childhood, time in the military, to roads traveled throughout his years of trucking, he carried listeners back to another time, preserving the legacy of a life well lived and a history worth remembering. These stories were more than entertainment; they were the threads that connected generations. An active member of the American Legion, Ruben's commitment to his fellow servicemen and women was unwavering. He found camaraderie and purpose within Post #194 in Lincolnton and Post #192 in Evans, where he shared his experiences and lent a hand to those in need. Ruben's life was marked by the love and devotion he shared with his family. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Sue Bowman Scott, and his beloved daughter, Cathy Sue Ashmore. His memory will be forever honored by his son-in-law, Haynes Ashmore and companion, Teresa Chapman; his granddaughter, Bridget Scott and her husband, Fred; his grandson, Scott Ashmore and his wife, Tina; his great-grandchildren, Sadie Morris and her husband, Daniel, and Presley Arnold and her husband, Tyler, Jonathan Nelson and Anna Ramsey; and his great-great-grandchildren, Madelynn Cate Morris, Elizabeth Jane Morris, Lillian Haynes Arnold, Jordan Riley Nelson, and Jackson Rylant Nelson. Ruben Scott lived a life marked by integrity and unwavering devotion to his family. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
