Mr. Ronald J. "Ronnie" Crump, 84 of Forest Lake Dr., Lincolnton entered into rest on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at his residence.
Mr. Crump, son of the late James Arthur and Irene Clark Crump was born on June 20, 1938 in Stockholm, NY, a beautiful rural hamlet that he also grew up in near the St. Lawrence River, Lake Champlain, Lake Ontario and the Adirondack Mountains. When he became old enough, he joined the US Navy and was stationed at Jacksonville NAS and Bangor, ME from 1955-57. During that time, he met a young telephone operator named Audrey O' Neal, fell in love and they were married soon after. After serving his country, he went to work for the VA Hospital in Tupper Lake NY in 1961. In 1963, he was transferred to Lynwood Hospital in Augusta where he worked as a nursing assistant until 1969. Then, he changed careers and became a bus driver for Greyhound and later Lewis Bus Lines from which he retired at age 74. During his years as a bus driver, he toured all but two of the 48 states in the continental US.
After raising their family and living many years in Martinez, he and Audrey decided to move to a more quiet area and chose the Woodlawn community of Lincoln county for their retirement home. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and enjoyed collecting cars, trucks, toy tractors, especially his favorite John Deere. In addition, he loved woodworking and had fished a lot when he was younger.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey O'Neal Crump; son, Wayne Crump of Lincolnton; daughter, Melissa Ringle (Michael) of Grovetown; grandchildren, Amanda Hamilton, Tommy Rogers (Brianna), Billy Hamilton (Katie), Shane Crump (Tina), Amie Crump (Ty), Aubrey Crump (Tanner), Addison Cox, and Rylan Cox; His son, Terry Lee Crump died in 2012.
A funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 2pm at Salem Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton is honored to serve the family of Ronald J. "Ronnie" Crump.
